MTCC contracted for Integrated National Public Ferry Network of Phase 2 & Phase 3

Maldives Transport and
Contracting Company PLC (MTCC) has been contracted for the Integrated National
Public Ferry Network Project of Phase 2 & Phase 3.
Permanent Secretary
Zeeniya Ahmed Hameed signed the agreement on behalf of the Ministry of National
Planning, Housing and Infrastructure while Chief Executive Officer, Adam Azim
signed on behalf of MTCC.
Along with this
agreement, Maldives’ Public Ferry Services will be handed over to MTCC.
Preparation of the
vessels and other necessary building equipment required for this service will
commence during Phase 2 and Phase 3. As a result of this project, a number of
job opportunities will be created, while also creating the opportunity to
connect the country economically.
Integrated National
Ferry Network project is aimed towards the whole country by including and designing
passenger ferries. The public ferry network is designed with the health and
safety measures of the passengers in mind as well as providing easy and
sustainable services to the passengers. With the establishment of the ferry
network, other infrastructure required for this project such as the ferry
terminal and jetties will be constructed.
Six zones will be
included in this public ferry network, and the establishment is planned for
three phases.
MTCC is currently providing
services to Phase 1 which includes; Ha, Hdh and Sh Atoll respectively.
