Addu City land reclamation
project officially inaugurated.
The Addu City land
reclamation project was officially inaugurated by HEP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The President was
accompanied by Indian Minister of State for External Affairs His Excellency V
Muralitharan and Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar to inaugurate the project at a
special function held in Addu City.
Under the project a total
of 228 hectares of land will be added to Addu City. They are 80 hectares for
Hithadhoo, 76 hectares for Madaru/Maradufedu and 4.7 hectares for Hankede. Moreover,
8.3 hectares of 3 islands 5 hectares of 2 islands provisioned for the purpose of
tourism development.
The 1.6 billion MVR project
is being handled by Venoord India Pvt Ltd and MTCC.
The project has completed
the relocation of 70,000 coral colonies in the land extension area to safe
areas. These works are carried out after taking all monitoring and mitigation
measures as per the EIA.
