The infrastructure department shall plan, develop and manage the designs and projects required to develop the infrastructure as mandated by the ministry and the strategic action plan of the government. Also establish a register of the state buildings and other infrastructure and oversee the use of such buildings. Provide technical support for the repair works of the buildings and infrastructures by the ministry.

Construction of harbors and all works related to harbor development, harbor repairing, construction of jetties, building flats and houses in islands, providing electricity, water and sewerage for these houses, projects carried out with the help of international aid, road construction in islands, land reclamation and revetment works are the main tasks to be carried out by the infrastructure department. Also Identify and evaluate the disasters caused by any natural phenomenon and other causes, evaluate the damages done to public infrastructures and do researches for government to take the relevant steps.
