Detailed Risk Assessment of the Maldives (DIRAM) PDF Print E-mail

The main findings of the study ‘Detailed Island Risk Assessment of the Maldives’ (DIRAM) was presented by the consultants who undertook the study, to key ministries on 22nd October 2009. This study was started in 2007 and consisted of detailed assessment of  hazard, environmental, structural , economic and social vulnerabilities of ten selected islands. The islands selected for the study were: Hdh.Kulhudhufushi, Sh.Funadhoo, K.Thulhusdhoo,Dh.Kudahuvadhoo,Th.Villufushi,  L.Gan. GA.Villingili, Gdh. Thinadhoo, S.Feydhoo, S.Hithadhoo. The study analyses the vulnerabilities of these islands, the causes of these vulnerabilities and the likely impact of the most common hazards faced by the island. The vulnerability of island, key buildings, households, economy and the society on each island is examined in detail and island specific mitigation measures are recommended.

 

The study was funded by the UNDP and builds upon the Disaster Risk Profile for the Maldives, that was commissioned by the UNDP after the 2004 tsunami The DIRAM report is now being edited and will be available soon.
